About us
Re-Tree Tecumseh is a group of private citizens whose mission is to raise funds, plan, and execute a tree-planting program on city right-of-ways and public properties, for the benefit of the entire city. It is funded entirely by grants, donations, and fundraisers.
Following Re-Tree's founding in late 2018, our first priority was to re-tree the North Evans Street corridor between Burt Street and the north end of Red Mill Drive, bordering River Acres subdivision. We planted 123 trees in this area in 2019 and 2020 to replace the 50- to 60-year-old crabapples that were removed in 2018 due to old age and disease. A variety of flowering species was installed, including dogwoods, redbuds, crabapples, magnolias, and serviceberries. The project benefitted from a $9,000 grant from TLC Community Credit Union and a $1,500 matching grant from ReLeaf Michigan; the balance was funded entirely by individual donations.
Re-Tree's next priority will be planting new trees on main city thoroughfares, starting with the highly visible Chicago Boulevard. Re-treeing the residential east and west ends of the Boulevard is estimated to cost close to $10,000.
Twenty-eight new trees were installed on West Chicago Blvd. on June 12, 2021. Another twenty-six trees were planted on East Chicago Blvd. on October 30, 2021. Re-Tree Tecumseh has planted 177 trees since our founding in 2018.
Re-Tree Tecumseh is a fund at the Lenawee Community Foundation; donations qualify for federal tax deductions. Contributions can be mailed to: Lenawee Community Foundation, P.O. Box 142, Tecumseh, MI 49286. Please write Re-Tree Tecumseh on the memo line of your check. Or you can donate online here. Thank you for your support!
